Domain Transfer

Transferring Your Domain

If you decide to have a website built with Infoserve, once the website is complete, we will help you organise your domain and emails to ensure your new website goes live without any problems.

What do we need from you?

Once your website build is underway, you don't need to do anything immediately with your domain.  However, it is a good idea to find out where you domain(s) and email(s) are located.  There are online tools such as whois that can help you.  If you already know this information, please inform your account manager when placing your order.

If your website is going on a new domain, there is no need to worry about domain transfers, Infoserve will take care of this for you.

What happens with my new website?

Once your new website build is completed and you are happy with it, we will advise you on transferring your domain to Infoserve so we can put your website live for you.

As your domains will be under your name with your existing domain company, we will not be able to transfer the website for you.  However, we can send you documentation and speak to you to take you through what needs actioning so we can take control of your domain(s) and email(s).  Infoserve will ask you to change the domain tag on your domains(s) to Infoserve.  Different types of domains entail different methods of domain transfer...

.com .org .net domains

If your domain ends with .com, .net, .org - you will be required to request an EPP Code from your domain company.

Once you are supplied with the EPP Code, please pass that onto Infoserve, who will start the domain transfer.

Please keep an eye on your email account associated with this domain, as you will receive an email asking you to accept the transfer (and possibly enter the aforementioned EPP code).

Once you have accepted the transfer, contact us and we will complete the transfer for you.

Please be aware, these types of domains can take up to a week to transfer.

.co.uk .uk domains

If your domain ends in .uk, please contact your hosting company and ask them to change the domain tag to INFOSERVE.

Once this has been actioned, please let Infoserve know.

.uk domain variations can happen within a few hours.

What happens if I can't transfer my domain?

For various reasons, there may be some situations where you cannot transfer your domain...

  • You may be stuck in a contract with your current domain company.
  • Your domain might be to new to transfer.
  • You may only be renting your domain.

In this situation, do not worry.  If you inform Infoserve, we can provide you with settings to allow you to 'point' your domain to your new website.

Follow the instructions below to connect your domain:

1/ Log in to your domain host, go to the domain management area and find the DNS editing options.
Create a new CNAME record with the following settings:

• Host/Alias: www
• Destination/Target: s.multiscreensite.com

2/ Point the root of your domain (domain.com) to your website. To do this, create two A records with following settings:

First
• Host/Alias: @
• Destination/Target: 35.172.94.1

Second
• Host/Alias: @
• Destination/Target: 100.24.208.97

If your new website is a Wordpress website, please contact us.

What will happen to my email accounts?

Before the transfer begins, we strongly recommend that you back up any information in your mailbox that you wish to keep, such as emails and contacts.

Infoserve are hosting my emails

If you have decided to bring your email hosting across to us, you will be provided with the details for your newly created accounts upon completion of the transfer. After this, you can then upload any emails and/or contacts that you have backed up from your previous mailboxes and then continue to use your new mailboxes as usual.

Infoserve are NOT hosting my emails

If you have decided to keep your emails with a 3rd party provider, we strongly recommend you contact them in advance to ensure they're aware of your domain being transferred. The reason we ask you to do this is that a lot of domain registrars and service providers terminate all services when your domain is transferred away. If you provide them with advance notice, they're likely to be able to accommodate for this and ensure mail access will still be possible throughout the entire process.

Your current mail host may also provide you with multiple DNS records that will need to be in place to ensure mail delivery is still possible. If these are provided to you, we will need to be made aware so that we can accommodate for this and ensure the records are in place before the transfer is completed.

I'm not transferring my domain

If you are not transferring your domain, and are just 'pointing' your domain, your emails will continue to work unaffected.

Help! I am still confused!

We understand that everything above may seem daunting, please do not worry.

Please get in touch with Infoserve and we can walk you through the process.
